Fire officials and EMS were called to the structural fire at North Hanover Mall located at 1155 Carlisle Street, around 5 p.m. on Mar. 28, dispatchers say at the time.
The fire started in the HVAC system on the roof of the JCPenney, spreading from the rubber roof to the metal deck, according to Hanover Area Fire & Rescue.
“One volunteer firefighter suffered a muscle sprain, and was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but thankfully, was quickly released,” fire officials say. No other injuries were reported at the fire.
The cost of the damage to the mall is estimated at $1 million.
The mall is currently closed to the public but “the bigger stores with their own entrances will make their own decision on whether or not to open, so please call them with any questions/inquiries,” according to the owners.
